FAQS

Is ordinary gum made from chewy plastic?

Most big gum brands make their gum using petroleum-derived plastic ingredients. This means a few things: that you’ll find up to two straws worth of plastic in each piece, and that once chewed, conventional chewinggum will live on earth forever as single-use plastic, polluting our streets, our oceans, and taking up space in our landfills.

So then what do we use instead of plastic?

We went back to chewing gum’s roots, and sourced the finest chicle from the chicle sap of sapodilla trees grown abundantly throughout Mexico. We extract it from the Sapodilla tree in the same way that the Aztecs would have done it centuries ago using the strongest and healthiest trees in the forest, small angular cuts are made down the bark of the tree to form channels. The cuts are deep enough to allow the sap to leak out, but not deep enough to harm the tree. The sap is then collected, heated and stirred together to form a sticky and consistent texture and forms the soft, chewy base of Yolo gum.

Is your gum really naturally derived?

Our gum is made from just plant-based ingredients only.

Where is it made?

In Europe by our USA based company.

How are you sustainable?

Most gum is made from chewy plastic which means that once you spit it out, it lives on earth forever as single-use plastic waste, filling up our landfills or polluting our streets and oceans. We decided to change that with YOLO, so we’re 100% plant-powered, plastic-free, biodegradable and planet-friendly from our chewing gum to our packaging.

Are you compostable?

We are indeed. YOLO Gum biodegrades like a piece of fruit or vegetable.

What’s your packaging made from?

Our packaging is entirely made from cardboard and can be fully recycled or reused.

If you don’t swallow gum, why does it matter that it’s plastic?

When you chew a piece of conventional plastic-based gum, its lifespan is just beginning. Once you discard it, it will go on existing as single-use plastic forever because it’s non-biodegradable!

But a piece of Plastic Free Gum will biodegrade and return to the earth, or as we like to call it, chewing gum heaven.

Despite our gum being plant-based and biodegradable, we still wouldn’t advise swallowing it given the gum’s sticky properties.

Why are you more expensive than conventional gum?

Because we use only the best plant-based, plastic-free and planet-friendly ingredients, carefully sourced from farms and suppliers around the world to deliver you the best possible product we can whilst keeping it better for you and better for our planet. These high quality ingredients aren’t as cheap or widely available as all the nasties used in conventional gum. So right now it comes at a slight premium, but we’re constantly improving to make sure YOLO will be as accessible as possible to everyone, everywhere.

What sweeteners do you use to make your gum so delicious?

We use only mother nature made real cane sugar.
